Householders can
contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by installing
solar water heaters or small scale renewable energy generators.
Where these systems qualify under the Renewable Energy (Electricity)
Act 2000, the system's owner can benefit financially.
To simplify the inclusion
of solar water heaters and small generation units under the
Mandatory Renewable Energy Target, the number of Renewable
Energy Certificates (RECs) that can be claimed for eligible
systems has been calculated by the Office of the Renewable
Energy Regulator and are referred to as deemed amounts.
Deemed renewable
energy certificates for both solar water heaters and small
generation units may be either created and traded by the owner
of the system, or assigned to a registered Agent. You may
assign your right to create certificates to an Agent in return
for some benefit to you, such as a rebate or price
reduction. In this case, the Agent will own the certificates.
