Depending on where you live in Australia and various other criteria, you may be eligible for a number of different government incentives and rebates that can greatly reduce the installation costs of a solar hot water system.
Not only does this make it an even more affordable option, it also means your solarised hot water system can pay for itself even quicker.
Based on programs in place at the time of writing, the following information can help you calculate what level of rebates and incentives you may be eligible for.

RECs – Renewable Energy Certificates
As part of its environmental commitments, the Federal Government is offering rebates to individuals who produce energy from renewable sources or displace energy usage from non-renewable sources. Solar hot water systems are included in this program.

Federal Government Rebate
The Australian Government currently offers a rebate of $1,000 to eligible applicants to offset the upfront costs of installing a solar hot water system in an existing home. To qualify for this rebate, you must satisfy certain criteria such as home ownership, income threshold and system specifications.

State Government rebates
Selected state governments within Australia also offer rebates to households installing solar hot water systems. These programs currently operate in South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. (If you live in other areas of Australia, you may want to ask your local MP why your state government doesn’t support such an initiative!)
