Mr Romano Bolzon, National Business Manager for Australian owned EcoSmart™ Hot Water, has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement to provide schools with an incentive to install solar hot water systems.
The Federal Government has announced it will provide up to $50,000, in the form of green vouchers, for every Australian school to install solar hot water systems and a rainwater tank, in an attempt to improve Australia’s energy and water efficiency.
All Australian primary and secondary schools are eligible for the funding, and schools which have previously received funding for rainwater tanks under an Australian Government programme, such as Community Water Grants, will have the amount deducted from the $50,000 grant.
A solar hot water system and a rainwater tank above 10,000 litres, along with their associated infrastructure and fittings, can be purchased with the grant.
Mr Bolzon said, “We welcome this move by the government, as it will bring strong growth to the solar hot water industry and ensure that Australian schools will use environmentally friendly hot water systems.
“Schools will now have the incentive to switch over to an energy efficient solar hot water system, and contribute positively towards environmental concerns. This will also help students and school communities across the country understand the importance of looking after our environment and in turn, learn how to help combat climate change through solar hot water’’, he added.
The Green Vouchers for School Programme will cost $336.1 million over the next four years, and is part of the government’s plan to better manage climate change and help lower Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions.
All schools will be sent a voucher they can use to access the programme. Every school will be invited to register their interest online by calling 1800 020 625.
